FTSE comms review to increase in-house PR

FTSE - one the world's leading index calculation specialists - is

upping its in-house PR numbers as part of a global communications

review.

Head of communications Helen Humphreys, who was recruited in June from

PA Consulting, has announced plans to cut down on retained external

agencies in a bid to bring the worldwide press office function

in-house.

Humphreys has appointed two extra staff, including fellow ex-PA

Consulting PRO Sandra Steel, as a media relations manager with an

additional brief to manage European PR and international expansion.

As a result of the review, the UK retained agency of 18 months,

Countrywide Porter Novelli, will no longer manage FTSE's press office

and will be used instead for project work.

In the past, CPN has handled FTSE's PR in the UK, France, Germany and

the US.

Following the communications overhaul, the French account has been

repitched, with results expected soon. Plans are afoot to review the US

account.

Humphreys is also actively recruiting a PR manager for the US to

co-ordinate PR in the existing New York office and for a new West Coast

office, set to open at the end of the year.

In Hong Kong, where another office is due to open, FTSE is currently

staging a three-way pitch. PR Week UK understands Bentley Porter Novelli

has secured the account.
