Toon will be responsible for leading AstraZeneca’s externalisation strategy, which includes acquisition and partnering, to raise the company’s profile with potential partners.

The newly created role will also see Toon look to promote the company as the partner of choice for academic and industry leaders.

Toon will report to AstraZeneca’s V-P of group corporate comms Neil McCrae.

She was formerly a co-founder and director of Northbank Communications, which was acquired by College Hill in October 2007, where she remained as a partner until joining M:Communications in January 2011.

Toon will also provide strategic comms support for AstraZeneca’s Strategic Partnering and Business Development Group.

Shaun Grady, V-P of SPBD at AstraZeneca, said: 'Katja will play an important role in differentiating AstraZeneca, ensuring that we deliver on our externalisation objectives and achieve our goal in becoming the partner of choice.’
