Addressing visitors alongside public affairs director John Fraser, she said crisis planning was only worthwhile if staff were actively trained to respond to urgent situations at short notice.

The former head of communications at Railtrack in Scotland chose the Showcase to unveil the agency's ten-point crisis management plan.

This included selecting three top wire reporters to target with early messages, and ensuring staff, customers and other stakeholders are included in PR plans.
