The Greater London Authority is recruiting to fill three senior posts within its communications directorate.

The authority is looking to put in place three departmental heads; of media relations, public liaison and consultation and marketing.

The head of media relations post, being covered in the interim by Neetinder Boparai, will be in charge of the GLA's 24-hour, 12-strong press office as well as press teams for the mayoral office, assembly and political parties.

The head of public liaison and consultation has an internal communications remit as well as public consultation and liaison with other bodies in the capital, including the Metropolitan Police.

The marketing department will come under the control of the communications function to emphasise the need to promote the 'London brand' according to Charlotte Rowe, who was appointed executive director of communications late last year (PRWeek, 1 December).

She said: 'I'm getting the team together. We've got the basis, with a lot of good people and specialists already here and soon we should have the whole team in place.'

The authority has around 270 staff, 40 of whom are part of the communications directorate.

Communications has a budget of more than pounds 1m this year, excluding staff costs.
