The body serves as the forestry directorate to the Scottish Government, advising on forestry policy and managing Scotland's estate. The new comms programme will focus on Scotland's central belt, where both Scottish Lowlands Forest District and Central Conservancy operate.

The brief reads: 'The awarding authority is inviting tenders for a PR programme in the specified location, which will support the delivery of FCS work, raise awareness of the benefits that forestry is bringing to the central belt and encourage a greater use of woodlands.'

The campaign objective is to promote the work that FCS is delivering in the Central Scotland Green Network area, while encouraging 'awareness and use of urban woodlands, among communities and current non-users'.

Another aim is to 'demonstrate to key audiences how important forestry is in improving the lives of urban people'.

This geographical area contains about 60-70 per cent of the Scottish population - more than three million people - and is home to one of the Scottish Government's national priorities - the Central Scotland Green Network.

The estimated total value of the contract is £30-40,000 in the first nine months.

There is a potential value of up to £100,000 if the contract is extended to three years. The closing date for entries is 25 July.

The anticipated contract start date will be 5 September, to be completed by 30 May 2012. However, there will be an option to extend depending on contract performance and budget availability.
