> Whisky producer The Edrington Group, whose brands include The Famous Grouse and The Macallan, has appointed Emrys Inker as corporate affairs director.

He takes over in May, succeeding Malcolm Cannon, who moves to the newly-created role of director of e-commerce.

'He's got a very good knowledge of all press work - local, national and international - as well as a great deal of experience in the financial sector. He will be a great asset to our company,' said Cannon.

Inker has been head of PR at Scottish engineering company Weir Group for the last 15 years and also worked as senior press officer for the Scottish Development Agency, promoting Scottish electronic industry overseas, mainly in the US and Europe.

In his new role, Inker will oversee all internal and external PR work at Edrington. He will work at offices in Perth and Glasgow and report to chairman and chief executive Ian Good and sales and marketing director Barrie Jackson.

Edrington director of external communications Jim Turle retires in May after 27 years with the company. He will, however, remain in a consultancy role to assist Inker.

The Edrington Group is a private company which has been involved with the whisky industry since 1860.

It is wholly controlled by the Robertson Trust, established by the descendants of the group's founders. In 1999, the Edrington Group bought Highland Distillers. This added The Famous Grouse, The Macallan and Highland Park to a brand portfolio, which also includes Glengoigne and Cutty Sark.
