Ex-Virgin Atlantic comms chief Charles joined the agency in January 2010 as chief operating officer. He later established a consumer practice alongside Julia Perowne, former international client director for Massey Partnership.
Charles and Perowne have formed a new company, Perowne Charles Communications (PCC) that begins operating immediately. The agency will transfer an agreed roster of clients and staff to new London premises later this month.
After the sale, Lewis is understood to be readying an acquisition of another UK consumer PR agency, but without a focus on the travel sector.
Lewis CEO Chris Lewis commented: ‘Our strategic consumer plan does not include a niche focus on travel, therefore we’re pleased to offer Paul and Julia this opportunity to purchase the travel business.
‘Proceeds from this sale will be re-invested back into the consumer division and we will be making a further announcement in this area shortly.’
Lewis added that the consumer division and travel business had been a ‘great success’ and ‘exceeded expectations’.
Charles commented: ‘PCC will focus on world-class account servicing and expert consultancy to its clients and continue to grow strongly over the coming months and years.’
The terms of the sale were undisclosed.
