Charles Watson, who stepped down from his role at FD earlier this year, will act as chairman at the new firm. He has secured private equity funding from Phoenix Equity Partners to back the deal.

The new venture aims to create an international integrated marketing comms business and will look for acquisitions in the social media and digital space.

The business will be jointly owned by Karmarama’s existing partners, Adam Silver, who has joined the start-up venture as corporate development director with responsibility for overseeing the continuing acquisition programme, and Watson as chairman.

Kaper was set up under the Karmarama banner by former Shine Communications and MySpace comms director Chris McCafferty in July 2010.

FD handled PR around the deal.
