Alliance Surgical, the UK's largest group of NHS consultants, has called in Better PR to handle its comms. The agency has been asked to build awareness of Alliance Surgical's aim to standardise the treatment of private patients, so that healthcare professionals are not charging different fees.

Porter Novelli has lost a senior account director in its health division to Just:: Health PR. Abigail Burwood is now senior consultant at Just, where she will be working on a mixture of European and UK business. She has nine years' experience in healthcare PR and social marketing.

The Red Consultancy has hired a new account director for its health offering to focus on diabetes, pain and smoking cessation. Sarah McKinnon Clark joins from Ruder Finn, where she was account manager for its healthcare division.

The first International Healthcare Social Media Summit on 18 May drew more than 160 GlobalHealthPR network viewers from Spain, Portugal and Washington DC. They tuned into an online conference to hear about strategies for using digital tools.
