GCI has snapped up healthcare consultancy Maureen Cropper Communications - taking the agency into the Top 5 of PRWeek's healthcare Top 50.
The buyout, worth an undisclosed sum, is part of GCI's drive to establish 'a full spectrum service offer in the healthcare communications sector'.
It will bring the agency's healthcare fee income to over pounds 2.4m, according to PRWeek's most recent figures.
MCC has annual turnover of pounds 700,000 and 14 staff, who have been told their jobs are secure. Plans are afoot to relocate the two healthcare teams.
Maureen Cropper and her directors will work with Rachel Terry, head of GCI's ethical pharmaceutical group, and UK CEO Adrian Wheeler.
Wheeler is seeking to recruit an overall managing director for GCI's UK healthcare interests. He said: 'MCC will add a new dimension of expertise to our healthcare practices. It means we can now offer OTC and ethical healthcare PR.'
Wheeler added the buy-out was one of many planned. 'We see numerous opportunities for synergy and there are several deals simmering,' he said.
