The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) has appointed Brian Lamb as its director of communications.

Lamb joins from the disability charity organisation SCOPE where he worked for 15 years, most recently as head of PR. He is also chair of the Special Needs Consortium.

He replaces Joe Saxton and will lead a 90-strong UK communications team.

He will also oversee the charity's response to the Government's new Disability and Special Needs Education Bill.

Lamb will report to Peter Jennings, the deputy chief executive of RNID, the UK's largest charity representing 8.7m deaf and hard of hearing people.

Lamb said: 'I am joining at a time when there are opportunities to build on the potential for major changes in legislation.'

SCOPE's Jane Finucane also joins the RNID as deputy director of communications.
