GENEVA: The Red Cross' newly appointed head of international media services, Denis McClean, has announced he is looking to expand its global PR operations in a bid to raise the humanitarian organisation's media profile.

McClean, now based in The Red Cross Federation and Red Crescent Societies headquarters in Geneva, said it was his priority to boost the number of regionally-based delegates by at least five to 13.

'We have a great reputation for action on the ground, but not always as good for letting people know what we do,' said McClean, who was previously The Red Cross' head of regional delegations for the Caribbean.

'Ideally we should have one such person in each regional delegation, but it's all about resources,' he added.

At present, McClean - who took over his role from Jon Valfells, now on a year's leave of absence - oversees a team of 20 worldwide and another 15 information staff.
