Electricity network operator 24Seven has appointed Nick Akers as its first head of communications.

Electricity network operator 24Seven has appointed Nick Akers as its first head of communications.

Akers, who reports to director of human resources Steve Thomas, took up the post this week.

He leads a team of five, including external communications manager Angela Lawrence, internal communications manager Maria Banks, community relations manager Wendy Jupp and Michelle Baldwin, communications assistant.

According to Lawrence, one of Akers' main tasks will be to co-ordinate an awareness campaign during the spring, aimed at domestic customers.

Akers has been involved with 24Seven since its launch, in April last year, as a marketing consultant. He has previously worked at East Midlands Electricity and British Telecom International.

24Seven was formed jointly by TXU Europe and London Electricity. It runs electricity networks in London and the east of England, serving 5.2 million properties and is Britain's largest network operator.

The company plans to expand into the management of other utilities, including gas and water, in Europe and the US.
