Hedges new Euro comms head at American Airlines

Top 5 global carrier American Airlines has appointed a new European communications head.

Richard Hedges replaces Al Comeaux as manager of corporate communications, Europe. Comeaux has left AA and returned to the US to head PR at internet travel company Travelocity.com.

Based at AA's European base in London, Hedges will manage a team of three PROs and report to AA's worldwide MD of corporate communications, Al Becker, at the airline's overall headquarters in Dallas.

'I also have a dotted line of communication to the European vice-president Jeff Campbell and will work closely with him and Becker,' said Hedges, who is responsible for all PR and external communications - including the hiring of PR agencies - across Europe.

Hedges, who was previously press and PR manager at Cranfield School of Management, will oversee the AA's external agencies in Paris and Frankfurt.

He will also be responsible for PR operations in eight European countries served by the airline, liaising with local sales and marketing teams about latest roll-outs.

'We have projects planned and are soon to launch an extra legroom campaign in economy class, and seating changes in first and business,' said Hedges.

AA is currently seeking a replacement for out-going senior PRO Louise Falp.
