- Prove the value of outcome-based results

I would agree with Alex Aiken's comments about outcome-based results ('Oliver Letwin's comments on nudge unit are 'dispiriting", prweek.com/news, 9 March). Before I left COI as PR and client director I spent a good amount of time going round the regions presenting and listening to local authorities about outcome-based results.

There were some really good examples of where local authorities could prove the value of the outcome-based result far exceeded the cost ... All it needs is a different focus ...

- Know the difference between HR and PR

I think it helps to know what we mean by HR and PR ('Time for HR and PR to join ranks', prweek.com/features, 17 February). HR is about resourcing, learning and development, performance and reward, organisation design and development and employee relations and engagement.

This is not just my view. It's what the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development specifies in its professional map, which the industry body sees as the blueprint for HR. Internal comms does not feature. PR is grounded in communication and relationship management with stakeholders ...
