Public Sector: The Public Sector Week

Salford City Council's marketing and comms team is to be reduced as part of a plan to achieve overall savings of £40m.

Fifteen marketing posts will go overall, while a vacant director of marketing and comms post is to remain unfilled.

VisitCornwall, the Cornwall Development Company tourism service, has joined forces with its Devon counterpart to launch a PR campaign promoting the region to German visitors. Frankfurt-based PR and marketing agency, BZ.COMM, has been appointed to co-ordinate the campaign and will manage a German Facebook site for Cornwall and Devon.

Falkirk Council comms manager Caroline Binnie has been elected as the new chair of the CIPR's Scotland committee. Louise Nicolson of Bread PR is the new vice-chair. Elaine McKean of Fleishman-Hillard was appointed secretary and Sarah O'Loughlin of Transport Scotland continues as treasurer.

SkillsActive, the Government-licensed sector skills council, has enlisted Promote PR to manage the public relations of the entire SkillsActive Group. The agency, which was appointed for two years following a four-way pitch, will work across the sports, fitness, playwork, outdoors and caravan sectors.
