BERLIN: Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motorcars (RRB) has hired a PR

director to head communications in northern Europe.

Based in the company’s newly-opened European headquarters in Berlin,

Oliver Winkes started two weeks ago, focusing on Germany and Austria,

the car firm’s main markets in the region.

Reporting to European managing director Stefan Brungs, Winkes will run a

team of three working alongside his counterpart for southern Europe,

Jean-Philippe Coulaud. Winkes’ newly-created post had previously been

the responsibility of Coulaud.

RRB, which was bought by Volkswagen at the end of 1998, does not have a

single European PR agency, but uses PRP in Germany and Countrywide

Porter Novelli in the UK. Winkes is studying the firm’s regional agency

structure and will decide whether to make changes to the roster.

Winkes will oversee media relations, product placement, events and

government relations. Prior to joining RRB, he spent three years as PR

manager for Ferrari and Maserati in Germany.
