YMCA uses public affairs to focus on homeless.

The YMCA is to appoint its first director of public affairs in three years, to raise awareness of the charity’s work among the young and homeless.

three years, to raise awareness of the charity’s work among the young

and homeless.



Head of fundraising Mark Phillips, who has been handling the public

affairs brief as part of his fundraising duties, is leaving to pursue a

career in film production.



He explained that the organisation had concentrated on building its

fundraising database from 8,000 to 180,000 donors and now needed someone

to raise understanding of its work with young, the homeless, the

unemployed and in the community.



The position takes over responsibility for fundraising as well as the

press, public relations and parliamentary brief and carries a salary of

pounds 45,000 a year.
