PUBLIC SECTOR: Egan defects from the RSPCA for Alliance

The Countryside Alliance, which campaigns on rural issues, has scored a coup with its latest PR appointment. Angela Egan has defected from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to the Alliance which is famous for, among other things, its pro-fox hunting stance. Egan claimed that the RSPCA had become ’so politicised that grassroots animal welfare issues were being subverted’. She claimed that after having lived in the country, she now thought fox-hunting to be a good thing. Egan replaces Paul Latham as senior press officer who left in February ahead of a communications revamp by PR director Nigel Henson.
