Hill and Knowlton has appointed a new head of sports marketing and

sponsorship. He is Alun James, who joined this week from the

International Tennis Federation (ITF), where he was head of

communications.

James heads a team of ten, and will lead major clients such as Adidas

UK, reporting to joint chief executive Marie Louise Windeler. He

replaces John Tibbs, who left H&K for Bell Pottinger, where he is

managing director of the sports division (PR Week, 18 February).

Work includes sponsorship, sports media relations, strategic consultancy

to sports organisations and evaluation of sponsorship. Although 80 per

cent of sponsorship is sports-related, there is also arts and

cause-related marketing work.

James plans to expand the sports marketing and sponsorship division.

He said: ’Hill and Knowlton has a lot of blue-chip clients, and I will

be communicating our offering to the market.’

Communications manager Barbara Travers is currently looking after media

relations at the ITF, but James is optimistic that H&Kwill take the

Federation on as a client.

industries division has launched a new company, Brands2Life for brands

in the e-business sector.
