BSMG Worldwide has hired Karen Winterhalter as its first head of

its healthcare practice in Europe. She joins the agency from healthcare

specialist Sante Communications, where she was executive director.

Healthcare was previously headed by Beverley Benson, who joined BSMG

when it bought her healthcare agency Concept. Her five-year earnout

period ended in May, when she left the company.

Currently, BSMG’s healthcare clients are all consumer, but with

Winterhalter’s background in ethical healthcare PR, it plans to build

this side of the business. Recently acquired public affairs agency GJW

has clients in this area, as does Paul Adamson, BSMG’s Belgian

operation. Nan Williams, UK CEO of BSMG Worldwide said: ’We already have

a significant consumer public relations and public affairs capability in

the UK, and can now build on that, adding ethical pharmaceutical

expertise and experience.’

The company also announced several new appointments in the corporate and

public affairs divisions. Patrick Barrow joins BSMG’s corporate affairs

practice as associate director. Previously, he was head of corporate

affairs at the Telegraph Group.

Barry White joins the public affairs practice from the Ulster Unionist

Party office in the House of Commons, where he has worked since 1997.
