August. One Communications has poached the head of PR at the

Institute of Directors Enterprises, to boost its expansion into

non-hi-tech business.

Judy Osborn, joins the agency next week as a senior consultant with a

’roving’ brief to develop business-to-business and corporate PR, with an

emphasis on small to medium-sized businesses. She will also be involved

in new business pitches and in particular, August. One’s diversification

into general business.

The search is now on for a replacement at IOD Enterprises, who will be

given the title of director of public relations, in recognition of the

growing importance of the role, according to Osborn.

Deputy head Sarah Hanson will act as head of PR until the vacancy is

filled.

’IOD Enterprises is about to launch a couple of new businesses over the

next few months, and the new person will probably have a tech-nology

background,’ Osborn added.

The post will complement the work of director of communications Steve

Reardon, who sits on the management team with managing director Andrew

Main Wilson.

August. One managing director Tariq Khwaja, said that Osborn’s experience

in general business would be a boost to the agency, facilitating pitches

in that area. But he added that she would also provide input to existing

hi-tech accounts.

’She will be consulting on the Microsoft account as well as the PC World

account,’ he said.

On August. One’s broad push into the general business area, Khwaja said

the agency would initially focus on traditional companies looking to

enter into e-commerce.

’This is the pathway we are taking out of technology at the moment, but

we are not ruling out working with traditional businesses,’ he added.
