As director of comms, he will work alongside his six-strong team to raise the profile of the UK as an investment location, and to support British nationals who live in or visit Spain.

He reports to the ambassador and the deputy head of mission and has replaced Louise Ansari.

Montague left Eurostar in September 2009, and moved to Madrid with his family after his wife was offered the CEO position for luxury brand Loewe.

He spent a year as a senior consultant at corporate PR agency Estudio de Comunicacion, working on clients in the transport and energy sectors.

‘Comms in Spain in fascinating. There are an estimated one million British residents as well as 15 million British visitors a year, so Spain has the UK’s largest network of consulates in the world. Comms is a crucial tool in getting across key messages about how the UK is a great place to invest and set up new businesses,’ says Montague.

In his new role, he will be responsible for using media relations, commercial diplomacy and public affairs to promote the advantages of investing in the UK to Spanish companies, in order to stimulate economic growth and jobs in the UK.

He will also work with the English-language media, and local Spanish and British stakeholders and NGOs to get messages across to British residents on the value and benefits of integrating into the Spanish way of life.
