Department for International Development appoints James Helm as director of comms

The Department for International Development (DfID) has appointed a director of comms from the COI.

James Helm joined the department last week, after working at the COI as group client director.

Helm joined the COI last July from his own consultancy Helm Media.

Helm has worked as a reporter, producer and presenter on Today on Radio 4, Radio 5 Live, BBC World and the BBC World Service. He has also acted as a consultant to PR agency Blue Rubicon.

Helm replaces James Hardy who left DfID in September to join the BBC as its head of comms for journalism. The BBC poached Hardy after just five months at the DfID.
