Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Serco, the outsourcing giant, has appointed Weber Shandwick for corporate public affairs advice. PRWeek revealed last month that Serco was on the hunt for lobbying support after a brush with Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude (PRWeek, 12 November). Serco has previously used Fleishman-Hillard for UK public affairs projects.

Viridor, the recycling, renewable energy and waste management company, has hired MHP Communications as its retained UK public affairs agency. The agency is charged with raising Viridor's profile among opinion leaders, regulators and policy-makers. MHP was recently formed from the integration of Mandate, Hogarth and Penrose.

Lloydspharmacy, which owns 1,650 pharmacies across the UK, has hired Fishburn Hedges as its retained public affairs and corporate comms agency following a competitive pitch.

Insight Public Affairs previously handled public affairs work for Lloydspharmacy.

Brands2Life has recruited Phil Murphy, founder of the networking group PubAffairs, as director of public affairs.

He replaces Darren Caplan, who is leaving to become CEO of the Airport Operators Association.
