Ogilvy PR Worldwide has appointed Miriam Ryan to head its new health and medical practice in London.

Ogilvy PR Worldwide has appointed Miriam Ryan to head its new

health and medical practice in London.

The team’s only appointment so far, she will report to Ogilvy PR UK’s

managing director, Donna Zurcher. According to Ryan, she plans to build

her team through acquisition.

Ogilvy PR is believed to be on the verge of buying a specialist

healthcare agency, which will be rebranded as a stand-alone unit of

Ogilvy.

Currently Ogilvy has only one London-based healthcare client, Merck

Pharmaceuticals.

Ryan has worked for Merck previously, on the cardiovascular side.

The team will also work closely with the Ogilvy’s New York office, and

focus on the ethical side, rather than over-the-counter products.

’I’m looking forward to building the European side of Ogilvy’s existing

global business, and establishing the agency as a serious player in the

UK and European healthcare market,’ said Ryan of her appointment.

Previously, Ryan had been managing partner at her own specialist agency,

advising healthcare clients on a strategic level, and with product

launches.

She has also worked for the Rowland Company in London and Zurich.
