Citigate hired to lobby for British Heart Foundation

The British Heart Foundation has selected Citigate Public Affairs as its first ever lobbying consultancy.

The British Heart Foundation has selected Citigate Public Affairs

as its first ever lobbying consultancy.

The charity, the UK’s leading funder of research into heart disease,

appointed Citigate last week after a five-way pitch.

The work at Citigate will be headed by associate director Louise de

Winter, with the involvement of the agency’s managing director Warwick

Smith.

The account will report to Betty McBride, director of communications at

the BHF, who was appointed earlier this year (PR Week, 17 March).

The foundation last month launched a campaign to encourage children to

take more regular exercise. Other initiatives for the charity include

increasing Government resources dedicated to dealing with heart disease

and supporting campaigns to discourage smoking and promote healthy

diets.

McBride said the organisation, which does not employ a Parliamentary

officer, already had ’good contacts’ with government and health sector

decision-makers, but wanted to formalise its links.

The BHF uses Manning Selvage and Lee and GBC for other PR services,

reporting to McBride.
