WASHINGTON: Shandwick International has named the chiefs of its

Global Public Affairs Group and pledged more acquisitions to support an

aggressive growth programme.

The new group itself is essentially an umbrella organisation under which

the Washington-based lobbyist Cassidy Companies, acquired by Shandwick

last November, will join the group’s existing international PR

functions.

It will be led from Washington by Dale Leibach, local MD, who has

responsibility for identifying cross-border opportunities in such issues

as trade, technology and biotechnology. Colin Byrne, CEO of Shandwick

Public Affairs in London, will handle Europe.

The group aims to specialise in campaigns to shape public policy at

local, national and international level.

Shandwick believes that the marriage of lobbying expertise with

international PR makes it unique. The company’s offices also include

Brussels, Berlin, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

’We believe it is the first truly global practice,’ Byrne said.

’Increasingly, government relations and corporate media relations go

hand in hand.’

Governments, corporations and associations will be targeted and

strategic acquisition are planned. The group recently announced a

’1,000-day plan’ to triple growth and double profit.
