Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts has appointed Phoebe Hamilton to the
newly-created position of PR director for the UK and Ireland.
A review of the Forte-owned Le Meridien’s PR function last year broke up
the European division of the chain, creating the new position.
Reporting to regional managing director, John Bamsey, Hamilton will
oversee PR for the group’s luxury hotels in central London and the Cafe
Her remit puts her in charge of media relations for nine hotels and
function suites across the UK and Ireland.
Le Meridien operates 125 hotels around the world, and is one of three
hotel chains within Forte hotels. The sister chains are Heritage, whose
49 hotels are represented by Biss Lancaster, and the 89 Posthouse
hotels, which currently use Ad Hoc PR. Public relations for Travelodge,
the fourth chain owned by Forte’s parent, the Granada group, is handled
by a three-strong in-house PR team headed by Sam Allanson-Bailey.
Hill and Knowlton currently handles PR for the Le Meridien hotels
outside the UK.
Hamilton assumed her role two weeks ago, covering external and corporate
communications. Before joining Le Meridien, she worked at Shandwick for
three years and for specialist tourism PR agencies First and NGA.
Corporate customers account for 70 percent of Le Meridien’s business,
with the remainder comprising leisure visitors. Hamilton says that her
aim is to use the PR function to increase the proportion of
high-spending corporate customers.
