Retail group Kingfisher, which owns Woolworths, Comet and B&Q, is

seeking to bump up its PR activity with half a dozen senior

appointments.

The DIY, electrical and retail group is searching for heads of public

relations, internal communications, media relations and government

affairs.

It has already appointed Jerry Marston as head of social

responsibility.

He joins next month from Littlewoods, where he is currently head of

public affairs.

Kingfisher has also appointed a new director of corporate communications

to its the Paris office. The current head of corporate communications

and investor relations in Paris, Graham Fairbank, will concentrate more

on IR issues. All department heads will report to director of corporate

affairs Gwen Gober.

According to Gober, the move reflected the need to grow a presence

throughout Europe. ’About 40 per cent of our sales are coming from

continental Europe. The primary focus is to enhance the Kingfisher

profile in Europe and ensure we are developing our audience

relationships to a level they are at in the UK.’

Gober joined Kingfisher from Littlewoods in June on a consultancy basis

and took over full-time in September. ’We are taking a fresh look at

what we are doing, the resources we are applying to communications

overall.’

Currently five people work full time in London on corporate affairs and

two in Paris. Kingfisher now operates across 14 countries.
