DIARY: Iceland’s campaigners come out of their shells and go to work on a egg

The media gave generous coverage to the fact that Iceland is the first

UK food retailer to remove colorants from chicken feed. It is now

feeding its birds on a natural diet, producing paler, less consistently

coloured yolks.

At the egg campaign launch event, held at The Villandry Restaurant in

London’s Great Portland Street, the inspired promoters treated

journalists from the national press and women’s interest magazines to

boiled eggs and organic bread soldiers.

Iceland PR manager Peck Har Tan, and Claire Chick from the supermarket’s

ad agency, HHCL, deny their names played any part in their selection for

the campaign. Peck said: ’Egg’s a complete coincidence. Anyone who says

it’s not has got his brains scrambled.’ Chick added: ’It was just a

stroke of cluck’ (sic).

Hen-pecked co-campaigner Ben Dutton made up for his lack of a

poultry-themed name by donning a white chicken suit for the launch

event. Looking good, Ben.
