ISTANBUL: McDonald’s Turkey has hired Serap Gokcebay as

Communications and PR Manager and launched a search for an external

agency.

Gokcebay, who started the job last week, was previously PR manager at

car maker Opel Turkey.

Until last week, the company’s corporate communications were handled by

its marketing team. Gokcebay plans to develop and expand the dedicated

PR unit.

The company is not working with an agency at the moment, although it

retained Burson-Marsteller’s Turkish affiliate Capitol Halkla Iliskiler

until last year. Capitol’s work ended in December and the agency was

acquired by WPP three months later.

PR Week understands there will not be an official pitch for the work but

Gokcebay does plan to talk to several agencies before making a

decision.

Gokcebay plans to have an agency in place by the end of next month.
