BP Amoco, the world’s third-largest integrated oil company and the

second-biggest firm listed on the London stock exchange, has appointed a

new communications manager at its main chemical plant near Hull.

Andrew Essex replaces Linda MacCleod at BPA Chemical’s Saltend plant.

MacCleod has moved to take up a position in the company’s global

business centre in London.

Responsible for a team of four, Essex will report to site manager Derek

MacAlpine and head of Saltend’s human resources, Blake Holt.

Essex will have sole responsibility for the site’s external and internal

communications.

Policy is set by BPA Chemicals HQ in London, but PR at each of its sites

around the world is run autonomously, said Essex.

He joins the Saltend team from the company’s London Britannica House

headquarters, where he was PR manager for BP Oil, and UK Social

Investment Manager, for four years.

Essex’s brief also extends to building stronger links between the

Saltend plant and the community to local MPs, local council, community

groups and the general public.

’Good reputation plays a real part in BPA Chemicals’ business in Hull.

This is a key role to ensure we manage that reputation with all our

stake holders,’ said Essex.
