Mobile communications giant Orange has appointed Cohn and Wolfe on

a UK and international corporate communications brief with estimated

fees of pounds 500,000.

C&W deputy managing director Jonathan Shore will head the account to

promote Orange’s intention to be operational in 50 international markets

by 2005. Shore will report to Denise Lewis, Orange’s head of corporate

communications and sponsorship.

The account was won after a competitive pitch, although Orange refused

to disclose how many agencies were involved.

The work comes off the back of C&W’s recent contract to manage the PR

campaign for Orange’s Formula 1 sponsorship. The appointment of C&W

brings to an end Orange’s three-year consumer PR account with Joe Public

Relations (JPR).

JPR managing director Matthew Wood said the account’s termination was

inevitable and ended amicably.

’We didn’t even pitch as we are a young company without a global

presence. We are naturally sorry to lose the account, but it has no

bearing on our expertise, merely on the lack of a global presence,’ said

Wood.
