The Dixons Group is seeking to appoint a single agency to work

across its three core brands - electrical retail outlets Dixons, Currys

and The Link. The move follows the appointment of Hamish Thompson as

head of press and PR.

’We are shortlisting agencies for Dixons, Currys and The Link at the

moment,’ said Thompson. An announcement is expected in six weeks

time.

’The account has been managed in-house for some time, but after a review

of the competitive marketplace, we have decided to appoint an outside

agency,’ he said.

Thompson said the in-house team of five would remain to manage

relationships with new and existing PR agencies. He said he would also

examine the group’s press-office structure. ’I will look at what

additional enhancements can be made, and what new methodology can be

introduced to broaden the message,’ he explained.

Thompson has a brief to develop and steer the PR strategy for all the

group’s retail and non-retail brands, including Dixons, Currys, PC

World, The Link, @Jakarta and Mastercare. He reports to Lesley Smith,

group director of corporate affairs. Thompson joins from technology

investment bank Broadview International, where he was European

communications manager.

Dixons currently uses Square Mile for corporate and financial PR, and is

expected to confirm an agency to work on the PC World account imminently

(PR Week, 12 May).
