ITV has appointed a new head of press and PR for the network,

following the departure of Carol Millward in December to go

travelling.

Paul Tyrrell, currently chief press officer at Granada Television, will

join next month, and report to Nicola Howson, director of corporate

affairs.

He will manage ITV’s media relations, and take responsibility for

programme publicity, with an emphasis on sport.

This includes promotion for major events such as Euro 2000, and

responsibility for ITV’s presenters, including Des Lynam.

Howson said of Tyrrell’s appointment: ’His programme publicity

experience in key genres such as factual and sport, combined with his

extensive press contacts, will be extremely valuable.’

At Granada, Tyrrell had day-to-day responsibility for the

Manchester-based media relations team and worked on projects such as

Hillsborough, the drama-documentary about the 1989 football disaster,

and This is Personal: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.

Before joining Granada in 1993, he worked for newspapers including the

Liverpool Echo and the South China Morning Post. He has also worked in

PR for ICI.
