Jaguar has appointed James Thomas as the first PR manager for

Jaguar Racing, following its recent foray into the Formula 1 racing

arena.

Thomas, 33, was public affairs manager at Toyota (GB) plc prior to the

appointment, and takes up the newly-created post next week.

Reporting to Jaguar’s director of international affairs and motorsport

Colin Cook, Thomas’ brief will be to co-ordinate all of Jaguar Racing’s

Formula 1 press relations and promote the brand in national news, racing

and lifestyle publications.

He will be based in the public affairs office at Jaguar Cars in

Coventry, but will move between the Jaguar Racing team in Milton Keynes

and the Jaguar Engines base in Cosworth, Northampton. Thomas told PR

Week that his appointment reflected global changes taking place at

Jaguar.

Jaguar entered Formula 1 racing for the first time in January this year,

with the launch of a new car - the Jaguar R1. A three-strong media

relations team, including Thomas, will be set up to co-ordinate its

press affairs.

Its most pressing engagement will be to oversee Jaguar’s coverage in the

forthcoming Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, on 12 March, which marks

the beginning of the Formula 1 season.

Commenting on Thomas’ appointment, Cook said the company would

capitalise on his experience as a former motorsport journalist and

PRO.

’One of his responsibilities is to link the technology and passion of

Formula 1 to our existing road cars. Another is to capitalise

domestically and globally on what’s happening at Jaguar at the moment,’

he added.
