Channel 5 has promoted its news, factual and sport publicity head

Paul Leather to be its corporate affairs head.

Leather’s appointment comes ten months after a search began to replace

the channel’s former PR chief, Sally Osman, who left to become

controller of press and publicity for BBC Broadcast, the corporation’s

commissioning and marketing arm. Channel 5 looked outside for a

replacement for Osman, but has decided to hire from within.

Leather has been jointly running the department with entertainment and

drama publicity head Greg Day since the summer, and the two will

continue to share responsibility for the nine-strong PR team. Leather

will report to marketing communications director Jim Hytner, and will

continue to oversee news, factual and sport publicity. He will also have

an input into public affairs, financial and internal communications.

Channel 5 has also promoted entertainment publicist Tamara Bishop to the

new role of publicity head for acquired, children’s and special events.
