B-M seeks London financial chief

Burson-Marsteller’s financial practice has started the hunt for a managing director to head its London operation.

Burson-Marsteller’s financial practice has started the hunt for a

managing director to head its London operation.

The position became vacant prior to Christmas after Goldman Sachs

approached former MD Simon Eaton to take up a permanent position in its

revamped communications team.

Goldman Sachs is a client of B-M’s, and Eaton had been on secondment

there since August, after European PR chief Martin Cardoe left to join

professional services firm Arthur Andersen (PR Week, 2 July).

Eaton officially joined Goldman Sachs in December as an executive

corporate communications director. He will report to Lucas van Praag who

also recently joined from Brunswick, as corporate affairs director for

Europe (PR Week, 7 January).

Eaton spent two-and-a-half years at B-M and set up its London financial

practice. According to Eaton, he continued to do some work for his B-M

clients, including Greek telecoms operator Panofone, while on

secondment.

Eaton ran B-M’s European financial practice jointly with Adrian

Shaw.

’We want to recruit someone of Simon’s standing as we look to build the

practice both in London and Europe,’ said Shaw. He claims B-M also wants

to recruit at all levels for its financial practice.

Eaton’s replacement will report directly to Shaw.
