PUBLIC SECTOR: Longlist drawn up for UKAS brief

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) has invited 12 public affairs and PR agencies to pitch for parliamentary monitoring and media relations work. The request went out to companies, which included Hill and Knowlton, Butler Kelly and GJW, shortly before Christmas. The head of public affairs at UKAS, recently-appointed former civil servant Marc Cranfield-Adams, hopes to appoint an agency, initially for a year, by March. UKAS was a division of the DTI until 1995 but is now a private firm. It accredits bodies seeking to establish guidelines for acceptable practice in any given industry.
