Schwab appoints Lansons to raise awareness in UK

The world’s largest on-line brokerage, Charles Schwab, has

appointed financial services specialist Lansons Communications as its UK

agency on fees of around pounds 200,000.

The agency was appointed after a three-way pitch, which included

incumbent Citigate Dewe Rogerson and Manning Selvage and Lee.

Lansons reports to Jane Drew, who was appointed last summer as head of

European public affairs and communications. Prior to this, PR came under

Guy Knight, who heads marketing for Europe. He originally appointed

Citigate’s financial arm three years ago.

’The growth of the business led to my appointment as a separate head of

PR,’ said Drew. ’Part of my brief was to review our communications

strategy and appoint an agency to help take the company forward.’

Both Drew and Knight report to Russell Shaw, Schwab’s senior VP for

international marketing, based in London.

Schwab still retains Citigate’s public affairs arm. The agency was hired

towards the end of last year without a competitive pitch. The account is

run from both its London and Brussels offices.

Lansons’ brief is UK-only. It starts work on the account later this

month, and tasks include running a press office.

’At the moment the campaign will focus on raising awareness of Schwab’s

position as the UK market leader for on-line stock,’ said Lansons MD

Tony Langham.
