Bernard Ingham starts up agency in media training

Margaret Thatcher’s former press secretary, Sir Bernard Ingham,

launched his own strategic communications and media consultancy

today.

He and fellow PR veteran John Burley have set up the Burley Ingham

Consultancy, which will focus on helping to train those dealing with and

managing the media.

Ingham said: ’We hope to run a business that gives training in media

management. I have manhandled some of the more difficult journalists in

my time, although not physically.’

Ingham added that there is always a gap in the market for those who wish

to set up a company if they know ’what they are talking about’.

Burley has run his own Midlands-based PR agency John Burley PR for eight

years. It has HSBC and Express Newspapers as clients, and arranges the

British Franchise Awards. Burley will keep his business separate from

the new venture.

Ingham, who is a PR Week columnist, left Downing Street after 11 years

to pursue a career in media seminar training, writing, and as

non-executive director of McDonald’s and Hill and Knowlton.
