BRUSSELS: APCO Europe has reshaped its senior management team,

bringing in new staff and promoting a host of existing employees.

Mike Rumsby has stepped up from associate director in the Brussels

office to managing director. Rumsby, who has been with APCO for three

years, will now run the Brussels operation with two other members of a

senior management team.

The first is Eric Merkel-Sobotta, an APCO consultant who previously ran

public affairs at courier company UPS. Now running the agency’s Fed-Ex

account, Merkel-Sobotta has been promoted to director.

He is joined by Laurent Chokouale Datou, a new appointee who was a

senior director at rival European lobbying shop EPPA.

All three report to Brad Staples, the agency’s European chairman who

also heads the competition practice.

Rumsby replaces two joint managing directors whose roles have now

changed.

Mark Dober will next month fill the newly-created role of managing

director at APCO Online, spearheading the agency’s attempts to offer

public affairs on the web at the same time as running traditional

lobbying work geared towards managing the legislative framework of the

digital economy.

According to UK managing director Nick De Luca, the creation of a

managing director post for APCO Online reflects the agency’s attempts to

upgrade the importance of internet work to the same level as in its

Washington, DC office.

Strategic communications director Nick Andrews will now assume a

pan-European role developing that function across APCO’s offices in

London, Brussels, Paris, Rome, Moscow and Geneva.
