PUBLIC SECTOR: Hillary seeks press deputy at Newcastle

Newcastle City Council’s head of communications Jan Hillary is looking to appoint a deputy to manage the day-to-day operations of the borough’s press office. Hillary said the council was making an increased effort to invest in communications after a resident survey showed only 34 per cent of the local population felt they were well enough informed of the council’s business. ’We can’t satisfy the public’s demand for information at the moment,’ Hillary said. The new deputy will take responsibility for the press office team of six, allowing Hillary to spend more time on strategic work.
