The producers of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Celador

Productions, have hired Ruth Settle as head of press and PR.

The appointment means the production company’s retainer relationship

with Freud Communications comes to an end, although it is expected

Celador will use agencies on a project basis in the future. Freud

Communications had been handling PR for Who wants to be a Millionaire?in

advance of the first series, which began in September 1998.

Adrian Woolfe, head of marketing for Celador said: ’We hope to be able

to work with them again on other projects.’

Settle will take responsibility for all aspects of publicity including

corporate affairs, programme publicity for Celador productions, and

international press and publicity for Who wants to be a Millionaire?,

which is now produced in 22 countries, with 55 more having optioned the

show. Celador also produces the National Lottery Winning Lines, with

Simon Mayo.

She has worked in television and radio publicity for over six years,

most recently as PR director for Talk Radio, and also as a publicist for

EastEnders.

Who wants to be a Millionaire? came in for criticism last year when the

fact that a contestant had won pounds 500,000 was revealed in the media

before the show had actually been broadcast. Settle said there was now a

guideline that nothing should appear in the media before it was shown on

TV.
