The MacLaurin Group has been appointed by Press Holdings, after a

non-competitive pitch, as the retained PR agency for Sunday Business and

Scotsman Publications, which publishes the Scotsman and Scotland on

Sunday.

Brian MacLaurin will direct the account and report to Andrew Neil and

Stephen Walker, publisher and managing director of both the Sunday

Business and Scotsman Publications.

Vicky Hurley, PR manager of Sunday Business, left the newspaper last

week after ten months in the position (PR Week, 9 April 1999). A

successor is not being sought.

Walker said the decision to appoint an agency was based partly on

economics, and the benefits of sharing resources.

Sunday Business’ most recent Audit Bureau of Circulation figures showed

an overall total average net circulation of 58,885 from July to December

1999, while the Scotsman reported an average of 75,757 for the same

period.

The MacLaurin Group handled PR for Sunday Business when it relaunched in

1998, on a project basis. The papers are owned by the Barclay Brothers’

Press Holdings company.

- Carlton Productions, the company which produces shows such as Peak

Practice and The Vice, has also appointed the MacLaurin Group. The media

and entertainment division will handle public relations for Carlton

Productions, to raise its profile as a major independent production

company.
