Computer manufacturer ARM Holdings has claimed the title of ’the

UK’s best-loved company’ according to the latest quarterly Press Watch

survey.

The company, which rose from 45th place, notched up a higher score for

the fourth quarter of 1999 than for the previous three quarters

combined.

Tesco and Virgin were second and third with telecoms giant Energis in

fourth place and retailer Matalan in fifth.

Press Watch monitors and scores media comment in the national press,

using it to rate each firm’s reputation.

ARM’s 1,314 points reflects its favourable coverage in the financial

press. Tesco’s 1,208 points shows it is winning the PR war against rival

Sainsbury, third from last on -2,308 points. Bottom of the list was

Railtrack, which failed to score any positive results in 1999.
