Superdrug has hired Safeway’s consumer PR head, Janey Berry, to

replace PR manager Catherine Emanuel, who left last summer.

Berry assumes an expanded role as communications head - which now

includes internal and corporate communications - at the start of

January, reporting to marketing head Neil Jarvis, who was himself only

appointed this week.

Assistant PR manager Sarah Turrell has been filling the manager’s role

since August, but has not applied for the job. Berry is expected to find

a beefed up role for Turrell in the new year. She will recruit an

internal communications expert early in 2000, bringing her team up to

five.

Neil Jarvis’s marketing role puts him in charge of 35 PR and advertising

staff. He replaces Paul Geddes, who left to join Kingfisher sister

company Comet in August.

Berry is not expected to end the firm’s eight-year link with Lexis

PR.

Superdrug was one of Lexis’s founding clients, and Lexis has been

Superdrug’s sole outside agency since then. The seven-strong account

team at Lexis is headed by group account director Rebecca Wagstaffe.
