WASHINGTON DC: The Saginaw-Chippewa Indian tribe of Michigan has

appointed PR agency The Kamber Group to improve its image within

political circles.

The tribe is opening a ’government house’ in the capital to act as an

embassy and boost its PR presence. Although Kamber will not be directly

involved in the tribe’s lobbying efforts, account executive Gavin

McDonald says the firm will attempt to raise the tribe’s profile both

’politically and culturally’ with key Washington audiences.

It will also provide a full range of communications and marketing

services, as well as assisting in the drafting and implementation of a

legislative agenda.

This is not the first time the tribe has hired PR support. In July, it

hired McCarthy Communications, a firm specialising in public policy

issues for Indian tribes, to help combat the sacking of members of the

tribal council by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
