The world’s largest Visa card issuer, Bank One International, has

appointed Nick Cobban as PR chief for Europe.

Cobban, currently director of credit and debit card association the

Credit Card Research Group, has been named vice-president of PR Europe

at Bank One. He holds the most senior European PR position and reports

to James Corcoran, Bank One International’s chief executive for European

operations.

The new post is part of a profile-raising campaign by Bank One, which

has been operational in the UK since November 1998 and is seeking to

expand throughout Europe.

Cobban will be responsible for all areas of PR, including liaising with

Bank One’s existing agency, Leeds-based Lynx PR. He will also be

responsible for building Bank One’s communications team.

’My job will be to increase awareness of Bank One’s credit cards and

plan for rapid European expansion and future internet-related products,’

said Cobban.

Cobban was appointed director of the Credit Card Research Group in

March. Prior to that, he was PR head for Barclays’ high street arm until

he resigned at the beginning of this year (PR Week, 29 January).
